Materials Hearn used to teach his son English

Hearn gave his eldest son lessons in English, beginning when Kazuo was five years old. Hearn wrote words and sentences on old newspapers. Quite skillful at drawing, he often drew sketches with sumi (India ink) to help Kazuo learn. The lessons, for three hours a day, continued until Hearn’s death.
